The STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) Club is the newest opportunity for students at CCMS. They had a busy first week! The inaugural meeting was held on March 14th (Pi Day) and was kicked off with an Engineering Challenge. Students were in groups of three and were challenged to build a structure with limited materials that held two styrofoam cups as far off of the desk and away from each other as possible. They worked hard and came up with some great designs. Their first lessons were in perseverance and collaboration!

The next day (March 15th), 13 STEM Club members and their advisors, Mrs. Perry and Mrs. Vaughn, loaded up a rented van (courtesy of Ga Tech) and headed to Atlanta. Ga Tech was holding its annual K-12 InVenture Challenge. This is a statewide competition of innovative ideas that solve common problems. The students had a great time discussing the projects with students from around the state. They have even generated some good ideas for projects that they will use to compete in next year’s challenge!
